It’s fine for me on desktop, altho I’m not really a huge stickler if the image isn’t filled with artifacts and such. Imgur does accept large images, so there’s that.
Also, Lemmy.World itself accepts image uploads, last I checked. If they’re too big, LW and any well-run instance should scale them down as appropriate.
You might want to open a ticket on that. Sounds like some part of the process is broken, there.
I gave up on IMGUR. I literally couldn’t get signed back into my account.
You can also upload w/o an acct if you’re not worried about images eventually being deleted. Some of mine uploaded that way were deleted after 4-5mos, and others are still there after 10+yrs. Or simply create a new acct…

I typically try a direct upload. Vast majority are rejected.
