Hullo folks, how are we this week? Anything we want to share?

It’s my (not so) wee brother’s birthday tomorrow, so family gathering for that. Been doing a bunch of cooking prep for it today. Sunday I fully intend to spend doing sweet fuck all besides probably playing some videogames and drinking nice coffee

Only as special as we make it! Not a round number or anything, and he’s been a proper adult for a good while now. He flew back from a trip to Gran Canaria tonight and based on what he was posting to the family group chat he will probably have a week’s worth of hangover and sunburn hitting him, so comfort foods and easy going company are probably the ticket

I am a big fan of Unorthodox’s stuff. Anything from East Africa tends to be up my alley - though I couldn’t quite place why - so I like to pick up a bag of whatever Unorthodox has from that region when I can

Quite keen on Caora out on Skye too, but that’s tougher to get in my area

I think Yellowcake from unorthodox might have been the first bag of fancy coffee I had. I still love naturals, so many interesting layers of flavours. Right now we’re taking a break from the expensive stuff for a bit, so I’ve just got some Taylors of Harrogate lazy Sunday beans, and I do two cups at once in the aeropress so it can’t get over-extracted.

Oh, I should ask then: when dd you last buy a bag of that Taylor’s Sunday one, and do you think it has changed recently? It’s a staple for my dad and he swears something is different, but I don’t have a proper “before” frame of reference since I hadn’t had it in a while when he mentioned it

It’s been a few years since I had it, but I think it is much as I remembered (?). Having said that, with the cost of coffee going up so much recently, I wouldn’t be surprised if the commodity brands like that are using different beans to keep the price from rising too much.

A challenging week for me again, still having wife trouble. In Inverness this weekend, who knows where that will take me?

Fairly sure Culloden for some tourism, and then Highland RFC

Had a day playing boardgames with pals. Went on a bit later than usual. Then the train we were going to get back was cancelled. With the Scotrail app saying someone’s been hit. Bit shocked. It’s usually just a signalling problem. Am back in fine now.

That sounds like a perfect start to some time off! You got plans or is this a holiday of enjoying not having plans?

Lots of little things, which mostly involve eating!! Lunch with my dad, dinner with my husband, pictures with my mum and a massage with a friend! Anything is better than working just now. Not enjoying it!!

Decent. Health goals gone to complete shit due to drinking too much beer on Friday, then we had her visiting cousin and fam over for a takeaway and more drinks on Saturday. Kind of resigning myself to the fact that I’ll never not be fat, but as a 48 year old father of 2 there’s a nagging sense that I really should be trying to fight the fight a little harder.

Doing well. Bought a set of standalone DJ decks off a coworker for a pittance, and have been slowly getting the feel for them. My only gripe is that Pioneer has made it so you need to use their proprietary software to analyse the tracks before using them on the decks if you want to know the BPM, length, key and see a waveform. That’s all well and good…if I had any computer that ran windows, or if Pioneer would stop with the “no one wants a Linux build” to the thousands of people talking about it in their forums…

I live an uninteresting life when nothing is on fire. Still looking for that elusive weekend since the bairn moved out.

Wife had to go get her unexpected because of suspected toothache turned out to be a sinus infection
