what do you mean? I think it’s pretty normal and expected to push for a higher salary, ask for bonuses, get PTO concessions based on lost seniority, etc.

at my last employer, I got a $50,000 starting bonus just by asking. nobody lost their mind; the recruiters take it in stride, go find out if they can do it, and tell you yes or no.

have you ever seen someone lose their mind because another person said they were going to negotiate a higher salary?

I have a feeling that my experience is a little more common than crazy comic book villain hyperbolic anarchy poster’s scenario

I assume you’re paid pretty well then? Most people aren’t salaried and the few that are salaried but still living closer to poverty than you may have a different experience. Jeopardizing your job by asking for more is a real fear people have.

definitely above median, but not any kind of fuck you money

The original image explicitly says salary, but you can negotiate for an hourly wage increase as well. People shouldn’t be scared of it, the worst that can happen is they say no.

“Memes” like OP’s create that fear, rather than empowering workers.

to repeat the question, have you ever seen anyone lose their mind because another person said they would negotiate their pay?
