And if antifa really were terrorists the CIA would be giving them weapons and untraceable currency.

People care. That’s the truly bizarre thing.

They’re deeply invested in Evil Foreign Brown Man as someone they can hate and Wise Righteous Western Liberal is someone they can cheer for.

Maduro is a monstrous dictator. He’s just not the kind of monstrous dictator that Trump likes. Like, y’know, Putin.

The person that won the Nobel Prize recently–Machado–ain’t exactly a great person to be leading Venezuela either, but the odds appear to be pretty damn high that she would have won the 2024 election in a blowout landslide, had she not been barred from running, and the vote count being entirely fraudulent by Maduro.

Maduro is a popularly supported leftist president that was elected democratically. Machado is a fascist that directly asked the US Empire to invade, she’s supported by the wealthy compradors in Venezuela while Maduro is supported by the working classes. The odds appear to be pretty damn high that Machado would have lost against Maduro, because in general she’s a deeply unpopular fascist.

Gonzalez, the person that did run against Maduro, almost certainly won.

Maduro refuses to show the proof, and all attempts by non-partisan groups to monitor the election were rebuffed. Meanwhile, Gonzalez released the official tally sheets from poll watchers, and parallel vote tabulation confirms those results, and some statistical analysis of the claimed vote totals is very, very strongly suggestive that Maduro cooked the vote totals. And yet, somehow you’re sure that he won.

Is there any amount of evidence that would convince you that Maduro falsified the election results? Because he’s not providing any evidence.

Also, there’s no doubt that Hugo Chavez was popularly elected. And Maduro was elected by a very slim majority (about 50.6%, IIRC) the first time, in '15 (?). Since then? Eh. Popularly supported? I’m not seeing any independent evidence of that; the people claiming he is are official propaganda arms of communist parties. Was Machado a right-wing candidate? Yep. But if she had so little support, then why was she barred from running? And the fact that she’s done shitty things, is a shitty person, and asked another shitty person to illegally invade does not mean that Maduro is popular with the people of Venezuela.

It’s incredibly unsurprising that the US Empire is manufacturing consent to invade Venezuela, and overturn their anti-imperialist president. Outside election monitors back up the results, and indicate that the Venezuelan electoral system is far more advanced than the US. I’d trust evidence more if it came from Cuba or Nicaragua than the heart of the empire. This is on top of your vague claims of Maduro being a “monstrous dictator.”

Agreed about Machado, but Maduro isn’t this populist champion of the working class he presents himself as. I’m about as convinced of Maduro’s commitment to socialism as I am of Trump’s commitment to “affordability.” He’s just another corrupt campist, willing to stoop to any means necessary to secure and consolidate his own power under the delusion that it’s the only way to resist US imperialism (while doing little to nothing to actually improve the living standards and autonomy of the working class).

Under Maduro, Venezuelan communes and participatory democracy is flourishing. In addition, massive social programs have been implemented, focusing on housing, food security, and poverty eradication. I’m not sure on what basis you distrust him so much, Venezuela is building socialism under Maduro from the bottom-up, and Maduro is doing his part from the top.
