The irreversible damage was caused long before Trump took office, the response to Nixon was the first assault on our democracy, perhaps a mortal wound when he was pardoned. NAFTA didn’t help Americans at all, response to 9-11 was horrifying, and Citizens United and Super PACs were the final nails in the the USA’s gigantic coffin.
