  • Lol, that last part was me, not my therapist. It doesn’t make things ok now nor did I ever say so, it was in response to OP saying that things are looking worse than ever with right-wing governments etc.

But xenophobia, racism, sexism, conservativism, and overall fascism (all the shitty isms) was the norm and by far the majority - it’s considered extreme these days for a reason.

  • Some things that helped me:

    • online isn’t reality
    • getting organized with a few people and volunteers helps a lot. It doesn’t need to be protests or direct action, something simple like mutual aid, food drives, meeting people can really flip the switch
    • focusing on the good that does exist, because it’s there, whether it’s something small amongst friends or little victories here and there.

My therapist also says 2 things - 1) if it’s too big of a problem, break it down to manageable things. 2) if it’s too big that you can’t do anything about, then it’s better to focus your attention on things you can change.

Also, the world was always shit, and waaayyy worse. We’re just blasted by how bad it is 24/7.

  • I wouldn’t be so sure

Last week, Israel’s death penalty drive entered its next stage: Lawmakers in the Knesset voted 93-0 to create a special military court to try Palestinians accused of perpetrating the October 7 attacks. As Sari Bashi argued, the new tribunal will be designed to subvert due process rights — and by allowing for confessions extracted through torture, will likely lead to mass executions.

On April 29, the Haifa Magistrate’s Court convicted 31-year-old activist Mohammad Taher Jabareen and 42-year-old attorney Ahmad Khalifa of “indirect incitement to terrorism” and “identification with a terrorist organization,” charges that carry a combined maximum sentence of eight years in prison. The decision came after more than 30 months of legal proceedings — during which Khalifa and Jabareen were held in administrative detention for four and eight months, respectively, before being released to house arrest.

So bringing the death penalty for “terrorists”, then politically run courts to label people as “terrorists”. It’s just genocide with legal backing, and now Israel found another way to genocide the Palestinians with Israeli nationality.

  • highlighted the impact that shared perceptions of the enemy can have: sections of the left-wing to far-left scene expressed solidarity with a supposed ‘Palestinian liberation struggle’ during protests."

Oh Germany school pamphlets demonizing the left, that’s fun…

Classic German “centrism” delivered condescendingly by a pot-bellied old German man as if it’s enlightenment. “We’ll blame everyone from the left and right under the guise of antisemitism, but not our own policies to supporting a genocide when people are rightfully angry”.
