But… That’s fine? We would expect them to? They came here for education. That’s not skilled immigrants leaving, it’s customers going home with what they paid for

Any citations?

I really don’t have an issue with student visas for actual students pursuing actual degrees from reputable universities. They are as close to printing free money as a country can get and it’s really only a benefit for us as a nation.

Well I’m mad at AI, that hardly makes me mad at the article. Ok though. Bye

Excellent. I kind of thought that might be the case but that’s not really regulating big tech… It’s regulating commercial finance, which presumably they had the remit and powers to do already

A lot of our immigration was from student visas. And a lot of student visas were being abused, both to bring in cheap labour and to prop up diploma mills.
The government stepped in to protect domestic labour and the reputation of Canadian higher education institutions (education being one of our largest export markets)

(if you have money)

Ok, sure. I think we’re missing the forest for the trees here though

If one AI outperformed the dumbest doctor on earth I’ll eat my hat

I’m not so sure, did you know you were drinking decaffeinated columbia frozen coffee crystals sir?

Absolutely necessary but is the bank of England the right entity to be regulating these?

There is yes, AI doesn’t seem to be a solution to that.

I’m not mad at the article really, it’s just dumb. I’m mostly mad at the dumbass I responded to

I mean almost the opposite of that. I mean that clearly we need to teach people how to engage with the internet in a sovereign way or else they are going to just eventually be captured again by opportunistic capitalists.
You keep saying “the developers” or implying that someone ELSE out there should be responsible for making this easier, which is the part I find baffling.
People are currently out there doing that, it’s getting better every day because people are building new solutions.
If you want something to change for the better within this ecosystem then it YOU that needs to do it, or at least you are certainly empowered to do it.
You passively waiting for SOMEONE ELSE to make a solution for you is the problem. If that someone else is a hobbyist who builds foss software for fun, the risks are pretty low and the chances of you reverse engineering and understanding of what’s going on are pretty high.
If you are waiting for a polished radio button to click that unfolds the second internet cleanly in front of you, I would argue you are basically waiting for a corporate solution where someone is going to want compensation from you for your efforts. Which is also TOTALLY FINE.
the issue is, when those corporate solutions grow and become less transparent and more necessary for the average user, that’s how we get the CURRENT internet.

You complaining about the economy while you NOT pay artists for their work is why you’re a spciopath

If it aucked and you experienced that whole piece of art you don’t get your money back. You don’t get your money back for a bad movie my guy.
Art gallery’s don’t give refunds and they ALL suck.
OPERA IS A REAL THING

It’s hilarious how badly you’ve misread this situation.
I’m in the camp of people who see pseudo intellectual bullshit bandied about all day on the internet and have since it all began.
“Seeking higher cognition” is meaningless word fluff and anyone who feels the need to advertise and ensure others are aware of their intelligence rank, which is of course ABOVE THEM.
seeking higher cognition is the type of phrase that makes my amigdyla fire and engage my primal prey response because this shit is either a cult or a scam and we’re the marks.
AI doesn’t mean anything, AI is a lot of things to a lot of people but really it’s software. Software that a lot of people have bet very very heavily on, but that doesn’t seem to really be finding a market to the scale warranted by the insane resources that have been allocated and are being used every day. The math there doesn’t work, huge amounts of land, power, water, high end computers, 247365, and you sell the world’s new MS paint.
Anyway fuck you

If you don’t know how to interact with the backup internet sovereignly, if you require a company as a middle man, that middle man has a degree of power over you.
That degree only grows as the tech becomes more complex. Requiring more people to use more middle men, etc, etc

I guess it wouldn’t mean shit, right?
Pirating indy games is crazy work, yes
