Assuming your family had the money to pay for the fancy TV channels that got these shows, otherwise good luck it’s just the 4 regular terrestrial channels and reruns of Thunderbirds and Danger Mouse xD

Work Reform@lemmy.world•Millennials Owe 500% More in Student Debt Than Their Parents Did
4·10 hours agoTo be fair to them, my parents grew up on a farm without electricity or running water. Unsurprising that they have less student debt than I do :3

Fascinating! I never would have expected this outcome.
“One small step for a man”
I know, I know, it’s not as poetic sounding and not how history most often quotes it, but that’s what he actually said, the “a” just gets a bit lost in his way of speaking and the less than perfect radio downlink.
Once you know the actual quote and think about it, it makes way more sense too haha :-D

Technology@lemmy.world•Goodbye device ownership, and the last vestiges of free speech will die with this bill as well.English
39·1 day agoEnjoy your free speech while you still have it because this is a clear attempt to erase that right.
Given that we’re on a global community, how will this erase my right to free speech here in Europe?
Or were you, like so many, just assuming everybody online lives in your country, so why bother mentioning what country you’re talking about in your title or description?
Millennials were ABSOLUTELY all about the lols, I can assure you. It was the most widely used acronym everywhere (second being brb, I would wager).
We roflcopter’d and roflmao’d with the best of em! lol

1811·3 days agoWhy does everybody insist on calling enemy occupiers, “settlers”?
When Russian civilians move in to annexed Ukrainian lands they’re not called settlers. Settler suggests peaceful civilians moving somewhere they’re allowed to inhabit, to start a new life.
They’re invaders. Occupiers. Thieves.
Settlers my arse.

Technology@lemmy.world•From Molotov cocktails to data center shutdowns, the AI backlash is turning revolutionaryEnglish
205·3 days ago“turning revolutionary”
Please, in the West we’ve had huge societal crisis after crisis, crumbling rights, services, and stability, etc, and nothing has turned revolutionary.
You think people who are willing (if you look at supposedly developed, modern places like the USA for example) to put up with a clearly predatory evil healthcare & police system, fascist government, almost no basic workers rights, disappearing people from the streets into concentration camps, etc etc, are going to ‘turn revolutionary’ over ANYTHING?
We’ve had every opportunity, every chance to stand up and fight for what’s right for us and others, and the best we can do are a few days of mild protests with some cardboard signs (which, given how far we’ve allowed our rights to be eroded are just as likely to land us in jail, or labeled as extremists).
Turning revolutionary my arse.

Sure, it’d pay for a few more CEO yachts, but that’s about it.
He was god’s gift to women!
In the quote he’s not saying other jobs don’t suck out your soul, just that it’s different.
In a vacuum, not knowing this guy or the rest of his statement, I don’t see anything obviously wrong with that he’s saying.
They take a mental toll on you in different ways, but they all take a mental toll, is what he seems to be saying, and I find that reasonable.
There are people who think trying to make a career as an entertainer (like in streaming) doesn’t take any toll on you at all, and that’s a misunderstanding we should dispell.
It was wonderful, I miss being able to hear my hard drive doing stuff, it was a really handy audible indicator.
I don’t have any context for whether this is expensive or not, but…
You’re charged LESS for fuel if you let them wash your car? …what?
Huh, I’ve probably seen it, but I can’t remember ever seeing a bloke pushing a pram here in the UK.
I see loads of women doing so of course, and I must have seen a man doing so at some point, but not often enough to have any recollection of it ever happening. Strange!
I’m sure I’ll take notice the next time I spot it though.

I don’t follow the discourse myself, I just keep seeing people make derogatory references to it here and there.

haha, I was just thinking about how this is very noticeable here in Manchester, then saw the URL!
