Working my way through Season 3 of Star Trek The Next Generation.

First watch. Its been good so far!

My group and I floated around different services for a while, self-hosting what we could. The requirements for us were really just a server with text channels and persistent messages, voice chat, and screen sharing.

We tried:

• Stoat (Revolt at the time) but we moved on before voice and video were rolled out.
• Matrix but voice and video weren’t really feasible.
• Steam chat but messages are deleted after 2 weeks and screen share didn’t really work.
• Teamspeak 6 was amazing for voice and video but chat was really only useful while online as messages aren’t really stored anywhere to load what was sent while you were offline, so we kept Steam chat for general conversations.

We finally landed on GameVox recently which has good voice and video, easy discord server import for channels and permissions, good chat features, and an extremely responsive dev who fixes issues almost immediately. I find that it isn’t as pretty as other alternatives out there and unfortunately it isn’t open-source, but the additional features compared to the other options will probably make it our new home for quite a while.

I feel exactly the same as you.

Right now? GrapheneOS and I don’t think I’ll switch to anything else until a phone option outside of big tech emerges.

Favorite of all time was probably Cyanogenmod up to Gingerbread and AOKP for that holo era (ICS, Jellybean, KitKat.)

I think around the Nexus 5, I stopped using custom roms until GrapheneOS.

Plasma Studio is a multimedia handling application that features video editing capabilities, raw photo editing, vector graphics, animations, audio editing, recording and streaming, and 3D modeling. It is fully hardware accelerated, implements up to 16bit surfaces, and it is implemented via a QML libstudio library that can be used by any application to offer the same features. It allows to work via a node-based workflow, what-you-see-is-what-you-get editing, or through a code view.

Yeah that’s a good idea. The prep before leaving came about because I already have a habit of making sure I have music or podcasts downloaded since I live in a rural area that doesn’t have good enough service for streaming. I still think its a good habit either way.

Switching map apps is tough for all the reasons you mentioned and more.

I’m exclusively using CoMaps for navigation but doing a little extra work before hitting the road by assuming the destination is wrong and double checking it and updating OSM if needed.

For my partner, this would be a deal breaker and she would be back on gmaps so fast. So instead of going head on into this, we settled in MapQuest which isn’t perfect, but doesn’t accidentally take her to the wrong town and provides traffic information and road closures at least.

I think it’s worth it in the long run to not be spoon feeding my location and shopping habits to Google 24/7 while dealing with ads in a maps app.
