Nate Hagens’s idea that the global economy behaves like a superorganism: about 8 billion people, markets, corporations and governments acting together like one organism whose only drive is to grow and burn energy, with nobody at the wheel.

The word comes from biology, where an ant colony or a beehive is a group of individuals that behaves as a single organism. Hagens applied it to the human economy in Economics for the future – Beyond the superorganism (Ecological Economics, 2020).

A place for energy, growth and its limits, the economy as a system, and what could come after.
