Nawrocki, aka the “nationalist” candidate, just won the election in Poland with a very narrow margin.
Nawrocki is formally independent, but is aligned with the PiS party of current president Duda, who were responsible for undermining Polish democracy by among other things stacking the courts with illegitimate judges. As the president has the power to block all judidcal appointments, it does not look like Poland will have their democracy back for the next five years: Duda has simply blocked all judicial appointments rendering the Polish state a lame duck, and in all likelihood Nawrocki will keep up the same obstructionist strategy.
Then again, that’s what they voted for.
Polish people did their choice and I just hope that Navrocky will be as strong as our president Volodymyr Zelensky when russian troops attack his country. Putin has nothing to loose anymore so he is raising stakes. He’s like that drunken gambler who lost his fortune and now wants to win it back by betting all his money on one card. I’m just surprised by the insecurity of the Poles, have they really forgotten how many times Russia divided the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. So that it doesn’t suddenly become a surprise for them… because a weak president during a war is always bad.
PiS/Nawrocki are quietly pro-russian traitors. If things get hard they will either follow our historical goverments and run, leaving the people to defend themselves or follow the other historical goverments and allow for the country to be divided and conquered without a serious fight. Our tradition of fighting for freedom is very separate from our traditional goverments…
I just think what Nawrocki would do if Russia attacked Poland, the US withdrew from NATO, and the EU and Great Britain refused to participate in the war against Russia… Leaving Poland one on one with Russia. Would Nawrocki surrender Poland to Putin? I know for sure that Ukraine, unlike Poland, will send Ukrainians to defend Poland - and all Ukrainians will be in solidarity in this matter. For us, Poles are brothers, just like Belarusians. No matter what. And no matter how much Russia wants to quarrel us - it will not succeed.
