As a non-American, I agree. Trump didn’t have institutional support either, he was a meme candidate. Turns out having an actual base is more important than being the least offensive to the most amount of people.
What’s more, the perception of being the anti-establishment vote was a tailwind for Trump. The non-voting block is a third of all eligible voters, those people don’t get out to vote because the unions tell them to, they’re only going to vote if they feel like there’s an actual chance of representation.
Progressives should stop apologizing to centrists and moderates. Listening to an placating these people is what got us here in the first place. And if, in the choice between AOC and Trump they choose Trump, then they weren’t really moderates to begin with.
