Chelsea have been fined £10.75m by the Premier League and given a one-window transfer ban, suspended for two years, over historical breaches of regulations under the ownership of Roman Abramovich
So, a slap on the wrist it is. As usual you just need to be rich enough and rules somehow can be bent and broken without any substantial risk.
Unsurprisingly, there aren’t really any consequences:
The fact that the first-team transfer ban is suspended means that Chelsea may suffer limited consequences, if any, as a result of breaking the rules. The owners have a buffer against the cost of any sanctions imposed by the FA or Premier League, thanks to a “holdback” clause inserted into the takeover deal by the Clearlake consortium that bought Chelsea from Abramovich.
Meanwhile city gets free pass every time.
