I guess this post could go to the UK Public Transport community, but in reality this particular clusterfuck (among many others) belongs firmly to the Tories, so UK Politics it is.
May the Tories never escape the blame for truly shocking ineptitude with HS2. Their Government’s early decisions in setting targets for the program (e.g. fastest train service in Europe) followed by political wrangling about the route with Tory heartlands have cost the UK tax payer tens of billions.
Bait headline and the BBC practically copied and pasted The Times article.
“2”
NVHS2.
Wasn’t the main selling point (if it could be called that) was that someone could travel from London to Birmingham 11 minutes quicker? I wonder if that’s still true.
Its the bit that was talked about the most, but its really not the main point, just a side effect. The main purpose of hs2 is (was) the give more capacity on the overall network, especially on the east and West Coast main lines but it had benefits across most of the country. By moving the express trains onto their own network you massively increase the capacity for local trains and freight. Reducing car traffic, potholes etc. Its hs2 or another motorway.
Utter clownshow.
I think this post could go in NotTheOnion!
High speed rail to travel at low speed…
