It’s a port with graphical and quality of life improvements.
They’re recording with new voice actors, but they’re also including the '97 version of the game with the War of the Lions translation.
I imagine it might be comparable to the recent Tactics Ogre remaster (another Yasumi Matsuno banger)
Basically all it needs to be the definitive edition is to also have either the original score or some remastered version of the soundtrack from the PSX version. That’s fine if that’s all they do with it that’s all I really need.
Agreed. Though i do hope they keep the incantation lines when they cast spells. It’s looking like it’ll be a faithful adaptation, but time will tell.
I’ve bought every version of FFT and I’ll buy this one even though I’ll always prefer the original English translation.

If the Japanese game got retranslated or a different script there’s a chance of that happening, but they’re not going to do anything special for the English release and include 2 scripts with it, I don’t think. Fan mod could happen I guess.
Hope it comes out on PC as well.
