This is actually a pretty smart play. They know Trump won’t fight them because he supported the Proud Boys going back to Charlottesville and is trying to sanewash Jan. 6th. That means it’s almost certain Trump won’t fight this, because treating the Proud Boys as a victim supports the narrative that Trump was the victim. What better prize could there be?

Maybe they don’t get a $100m payday, but I’m sure Trump will direct Bondi to settle. The Proud Boys can get maybe $10-$50m of taxpayer money just by filing the suit, also giving them and Trump seed money to rebuild it. You can’t get much easier money than this.

So in short; In one step, Trump’s personal, private racist SS division gets government funding, and likely affirms the DOJ won’t go after them again.
