Recently installed Fedora 44 and was not expecting it to be this fun!

I screwed up and did not create a bootable disk before the upgrade. I do not know if it is necessary but in my case it was important. Why? Because my laptop would no longer boot after upgrade complete.

What I did? Launched the upgrade right from the software centre GUI, thinking it would run seemlessly like sudo dnf update . Upon restart, laptop boots into BIOS with a message {No bootable media found} After trying several fixes from changing my boot order, to manually directing the BIOS to run grubx64.efi, I went for the nuclear option which was a fresh install.

So far everything runs fine and looks better than before. It’s been less than 24 hours until now. If you want to upgrade, back up your important data and go for it.

    ONE MORE THING

    I ran sudo dnf update and restarted my laptop before the upgrade from 43 -> 44. It is part of the recommended steps to update your current version before upgrading. I did get a warning that a certain file was not compatible with the new Fedora version and would be deleted. Can not remember what that file was, but that could have been important in causing the hiccups I experienced using the software center GUI

      Update: I own a USB headset that could not work while I had 43. I probably screwed up somewhere messing with PipeWire and other audio settings. It now works in 44, plug and play

      Laptop speakers still sound like shit, but bluetooth and wired headsets sound perfect!
