I was taking CDP-Choline for years based on recommendations from reddit nootropics at the time. And when I read eggs were a great source for them, I started consuming 2 eggs a day on top of that. I started pruning back some of my supplements as I wasn’t sure they were helping. Choline was one of them, including eggs, and I didn’t notice any reduction in my cognition.
Then about a year and a half ago, I forgot the reason, I ordered Alpha-GPC along with other supplements I would buy. After a month or so I felt a noticeable difference. I was sharper. Recalls were better. Learning also improved. I am still taking it to this day. My dose is 300mg of it daily, though bottle says I should take 600mg per day. I am taking half dose just out of caution and to observe moderation.
(personal note: I am a middle-aged male with concussion history who takes nootropics to enhance my brain health.)
It depends on your goals, each form has it’s different mechanisms in the body, for energy I thought regular choline was the best. Twinlab used to make a product called Choline Cocktail that had a bunch of choline, DMAE, B-vitamins, it was great and tasted yummy but it’s discontinued for some years. I found Alpha-GPC could make me a little aggressive, and it’s also a bit of a pain since it melts at almost room temperature so be careful if you buy it in bulk. CDP-Choline was the best all around and it’s kind of mid price too. It up to whatever works best for you and your body though so if Alpha-GPC is working for you I would stick with it.
Yeah I’m buying it in capsule form. I did find that the bulk item melted and solidified in the container. Its price in capsule form is now reasonable so I don’t mind paying for it.
Everytime I take anything choline related I get severely depressed/angry.
Ony exceptions have been DMAE / Huperzine A.
Anyone know why?
That’s weird. Choline is in eggs and all kinds of foods. Does eating eggs make you depressed?
not at all! its weird, but consistent
