Bingo! I fucking hate how journalists frequently say, Trump thinks this and Trump believes that" Nah, he’s saying that, sure, but he certainly does not believe a lot of the bullshit he says.
He directs the DOJ to investigate anyone who looks at him funny. Maybe if he didn’t have so many crimes under his own belt he wouldn’t be so paranoid.

Yep. Pretty much everything Trump has done is modeled after either Hitler or Putin, and of course this is no exception. Putin has been using political criminal lawfare to disqualify and imprison political opponents for decades, so that’s clearly the goal.
Not that Gavin is a great opposition leader, but he’s probably the one who to Trump looks like the biggest threat (white, male, relatively young, willing to resort to whatever populist pandering it takes).
I would be shocked if this wasn’t the case.
