The one that shot an officer got 100 years. I think it’s clear that the government is dangerously treading on people’s rights to protest, but it appears that not everyone here was just waving signs.

I’ve been hearing that the shot was in response to an ice that pulled his gun. Which would make sense given their past actions.

To be clear- not supporting violence here. I just think there may be more to the story than what the gov is sharing

There may well be. I’d certainly not take anything that the government says at face value these days. And I think some of the charges, like treating antifa as a terrorist organization, or treating protesters as organized conspirators are pretty blatant BS.

I mean, this is obviously not great, but in ANY government, under ANY leadership, firing a lethal weapon at the appointed law enforcement people is gonna be harshly punished. Same for destroying property and whatnot. Free speech and protesting is a very different thing from literally shooting at people.

Yeah, I know I’m about to get flamed for saying that. So I may as well reinforce like, yeah, fuck Trump and the administration and the government in general, but like…again. Who is it that you want to see in power, who is it you want to elect, who is it you’re rooting for that wouldn’t punish this harshly? It seems like people are just reading “protestors” here and not really doing their research. These people weren’t your garden variety protestors. I don’t think people being imprisoned for shooting at police is really a sign of fascism or anything else. And there are so many other better signs of it nowadays, I think this is just a weird issue to get freaked out about. Anarchism is just about the only form of society I can think of that wouldn’t punish this to a similar extent.

Only one of them fired a weapon. What makes your comment truly flame worthy is the idea that “harsh punishment for destruction of property” is a description for “50 years”.
