Rather than hanging the potential policy on a foreign name, let’s outline what the actual plan is.

Under the plan, from 1 January 2027, affected properties would face a base charge of $100,000 plus a 5.3% rate on land value above the threshold. The policy, costed by the Victorian Parliamentary Budget Office, would raise about $1.46bn by 2028/29 or $6.4bn over a decade.
As the Greens are not in power, and don’t have the ability to pass such a bill, this is all just a pipe-dream. Even should the Greens win the state election in November, there is 0% chance of getting such a policy in-place by Jan 1.
They’re much easier to support when they have realistic goals.

The headline is purely a product of the article’s author and/or Guardian editorial staff. Most of the article isn’t even about the Greens investment property tax, it’s about worldwide politics.
The Greens have an alphabetically sorted list for all their policies at https://greens.org.au/vic/policies - the described plan seems to be a more specific Victorian version of part of their Finance and Public Administration Policy - "3. Replace stamp duties with land value tax. "

Stamp duty penalises people for moving/downsizing, and is also (obviously) a tax.

It is difficult for The Greens to get any kind of positive media attention in our current media landscape, which is why we mostly just hear about their stunts and complaints rather than policies and actions. The polices and actions do exist though.

I’m not a greens supporter (they’re not anti-capitalist), but they do have well-documented policies, so not really sure what you mean by “if they actually came with policy”.
They obviously can’t implement them because they don’t meaningfully hold the balance of power (and even when they have, they haven’t done a great job - the ETS comes to mind).
Still better than the LNP and Labor though :/

Hutton? Dude’s a dickhead who’s finally had years of lead poisoning catch up to him. Leppert and Gale can get in the bin with the rest of the TERFS. But the fact that it caused a massive divide in a progressive party to oust someone for spouting biological essentialism is a massive red flag.
Ironically, apart from that blowup the greens have very problematically stood solidly behind members making racist, sexist, homophobic commentary and need to learn what a fucking party censure is and start using it.
That there are fuckheads in the party is not surprising . Human nature. But far too often they refuse to deal with them.
I don’t know that it’s human nature. But narcissism is over represented in politics. It’s partly what makes a person put their hand up in the first place. These types of people feel more contempt for others than your average Joe.
