    Sad to hear.

    1987 conviction and imprisonment

Hinch served 12 days in prison and was fined A$15,000 in 1987 for contempt of court after he publicly revealed paedophile Roman Catholic priest Michael Charles Glennon’s prior conviction while a trial was still pending.

    2011 conviction and home detention

In June 2011, he was convicted of breaching suppression orders against the names of two sex offenders, and was subsequently sentenced to five months’ home detention.

    2014 conviction and imprisonment

In October 2013, Hinch was found guilty of contempt of court for breaching a suppression order by revealing details of the criminal history of Jill Meagher’s killer, Adrian Ernest Bayley. The judge gave Hinch 90 days to pay the fine, or else face 50 days in prison.[47] On 16 January 2014, one day prior to the expiration of the 90-day period, Hinch advised that he would not pay the fine ‘on principle’. He was imprisoned on 17 January 2014.[48] On 7 March 2014, he was released from prison after 50 days, having served his full sentence. He was greeted by his partner Natasha Chadwick, other friends and a substantial media contingent.

    RIP Derryn

Edit maybe it wasn’t that smart tho?

I’m not going to pretend to understand the court system… But surely that’s a shit thing to do to leak details before court concludes? Does that then not give them an appeal avenue?

There’s Violence on the Television, and Letterbombs in the mail, But things can’t be all that bad that Derryn Hinch went to jail.

Famine eats up Children, the Peace talks: they always fail, But things can’t be all that bad ‘cos Derryn Hinch went to jail.

You might have double malaria, the doctors look at you, they go pale, But things, they can’t be all that bad when Derryn Hinch goes to jail.

Christ, himself, on the cross, told the guy that banged in the nail, Mate, things, they can’t be all that bad when Derryn Hinch goes to jail.

You know, I can take Ronald Reagan, I can take Menachem Begin, I can take Tetraplegia, I can take total amnesia, I can take black spiky hair, I can take germ warfare, I can take Chasers and Inflation, I can take hyperventilation, I can take total bowel dysfunction, I can take nuclear destruction, I can even take Mike Willesee (well, at a pinch), But one thing I cannot take is …

        Pretty much…

No idea why anyone would praise this guy. It’s no better than Pauline interfering with the court system at the moment. If they’re found not guilty, it’s not good.

Let the courts decide. We see plenty of stupid fucking vigilante bs that turns out wrong

His ego was so big he thought he knew better than the legal system. Every one of the rules he broke was there to protect the integrity of the legal system and ongoing court matters. Hinch was an egotistical asshole.

            Yep

I actually know someone who dodged one of these stupid vigilante bs things

There was a road rage incident where someone got upset during a right hand turn at her, she said they suck at driving when they got agro and drove off. Basically, the driver was acting like they wanted to do a U-turn, but actually wanted a right turn

She pulled over away from them, but theypulled up near her, and started physically smashing her car. So to get him from her car, she damaged his mirror.

Few hours later, they’re on Facebook trying to get information on her claiming she was on drugs and it was road rage by her. After she’d been completely abused, and they had ripped off mirrors, wipers off her car and damaged the door before she even went anywhere near theirs. Never mentioned they completely smashed her car

And all they wanted to do was report to police (playing innocent).

Facebook defended the aggressors strongly… until people started posting photos of evidence and I managed to explain to the mods that the story was a lie. And eventually the person let slip their husband sometimes acted irrationally

If someone like hinch caught onto this story, my friend would likely have been targeted by the community. And to this day, I make it clear to people to never report people to report info to anyone asking on Facebook, but direct to police only

There is a reason it goes through courts instead where all evidence is shown, instead of people who are simply popular

This is not “what’s best” it opens up huge avenues for getting any prosecutions thrown out to the point it makes you wonder whose fucking side he was really on.
