Do you maybe want to go to a site that has only upvotes, so ppl can never see if others didn’t like the content? I was on sites like that and it’s really not good. You see 200 upvotes and think ppl like it a lot, but you don’t see 30k ppl who dislike it.
However, the votes are merely important for sorting. You want the good stuff on top and if someone thinks clothes aren’t as good as a cat pic, I don’t blame them.
Why can’t people just block the communities they don’t want to see and move on?
I get that not everybody is into fashion and I don’t expect them to be, but downvoting stuff just because it doesn’t interest you is rude, and expecting this site to cater to your interests and no others, is entitled.

Mind you, I am not against this community - on the contrary, it seems interesting and you absolutely should do it.
But you got it wrong about publicly presenting stuff. When you do that, you’re putting it out there for the whole world, and the whole world will judge it. And most of the whole world is by definition mainstream. In other words, if you post your things into a feed for the mainstream, you’ll be judged by the mainstream.
There’s this whole womenonly community here that also just doesn’t get this - trust me, you don’t want to spend as much time fighting for special treatment as they do.
IMHO, rather use that time to make more of these posts. And ignore the downvotes, if it was for everybody, it wouldn’t be high fashion, it’d just be clothes.
I think lemmy just being very small is what turns this into a problem - by scrolling even a little bit on /all you will probably come across posts from niche communities, which can result in local votes being drowned out by the general audience. Much like I don’t downvote posts in languages I don’t speak, I also don’t see why I’d downvote a post like this where I just don’t care about the post because I don’t care about the whole subject of the community (the only reason I opened the comment section is that I was curious why it had 6 comments). If people do that anyway, it can really stifle community growth by discouraging posters.
I think this is fundamentally different from a post that I do care about that just comea from somewhere I wouldn’t usually be active in.
Maybe they are into fashion, but not that fashion. Maybe they don’t like impractical clothes that come off when you sit down, slap you in the face when looking down or have no pockets, but are otherwise interested in fashion.
