I used to refer to (American) society as “the game” when I was a teenager. “Fuck the game,” I would think to myself. It is a competitive game that we are all stuck in whether we want to play or not. Pretty much all societal problems stem from this competitive aspect. People who have more than they can use still want more. People who don’t have enough to play should be removed. We can’t agree on anything universal because somebody will end up with a better deal than me. We have to focus on those that we are out competing (poor) to maintain our egos. Those above us are off limits to our judgement because they place higher. It’s just a fucking game that we invented, but for most of us, it causes more harm than good.
