“Stay woke” was used as a sign-off by a news network in the 1970s, urging people to “wake up” to the world around them. Starting some time in the 2010s, conservatives began to apply the label broadly to anything they don’t like.

It’s fitting because you’d have to be asleep to believe half the shit they say.

An imaginary concept. It’s thinking about being awake, but the only time you’re thinking is when you are awake! And everyone knows the only thought possible is about going back to sleep. Ergo; the only ideology is eepy ideology.

A shibboleth, whereby whoever uses the term unironically is saving you hours of interpersonal inquiry, with the term acting as an archive that instantly uncompresses like a zip bomb, filling in every blank you have about the person on every conceivable topic. Their stance on climate change, LGBTQA+ people, the Civil Rights Act, the JFK assassination, women in STEM, vaccines, science, intellectuals and experts, DEI, the history of slavery and colonialism, Israel/Palestine, the green M&M, brown people playing cartoon characters in live action remakes, you name it and you’ll have a file in your now-bloated mental hard drive that pertains to it. It’s saved normal people decades of pointless droning conversation and lets us get right back to whatever we were doing when the imbecilic cunt deigned to interrupt us with his drooling conspiracism.

A convenient catch-all phrase that right wing chuds use to describe anything that doesn’t fit their conservative, racist worldview. Leftist? Woke. Rightist that supports different policies? Woke. Different religion? Woke. Different economic doctrine? Woke.

Woke = “I don’t understand this and am frightened that it threatens the perilous house of cards my worldview is built on.”
