He raises good points on the issue and has some sensible resolutions; however I have zero trust in our European Dear Leaders. They are too high on their own farts to see the folly in their actions, and won’t face danger because of them until massive civil wars (or revolutions more hopefully) sweep the states and drag their asses screaming from their führerbunkers to the gallows.

I’m pretty sure the most important european atlanticists at the levers of power do actually have a sober analysis of the situation. Their base of power lies outside of Europe though, so their decisions will be made independently of economic or social outcomes for the EU.
There are plenty of genuine fools though. It is a possibility that a critical mass of them has been reached like in the US.
I’m not so sure, I think these people do get high on their own supply. It’s unavoidable when you create a bubble where people just keep telling one another what they want to hear. We have lots of examples throughout history of elites being completely blindsided by the historical events. We should not assume that these people are smarter than everyone else just because they control a lot of capital. Their power base ultimately lies in the west, and the entire western system is now under pressure. The situation in Europe is most acute, but the same contagion is present in the rest of the bloc. When the crash comes it’s going to affect the whole system.
It’s so hard to tell for me. I like to read the white-papers by western think-tanks and the analysis is often of the same caliber as a Marxist’s, just with different wording.
Does the leadership refuse to read these things and just paint by number?
I get the impression that the leadership decides on what they want to be true, and then just selectively fits the facts to reach the conclusion. You gotta remember that the 90s were the formative years for these people. The Soviet Union fell apart, the US became the undisputed world power, and they could literally do anything they wanted. And this went on for decades. The idea that the US could do anything it puts its mind to as long as there’s enough will has become deeply ingrained with the decision making class. The world has slowly changed, and the US has lost its primacy, but all these people are still stuck in that brief unipolar moment thinking that if they just manifest hard enough, then they can get what they want.
