Entrism is a mere tactic. However some groups made a fetish out of it. That’s the reason why you have trotskyist parties in UK and just groups who were active in the Labour Party.
There was an important split once regarding this matter AFAIK. Trotskyist organisations which didn’t take the “forever entrism” route usually call them self “orthodox”.

It seems like British communists largely destroyed themselves anyway, so I don’t know to what extent Trots were necessary for this.
