Apple is once again complying with the rules of the European Union, as the company is now developing a universal copy and paste system to transfer text directly from an iPhone to a Windows-based PC. Under the EU Digital Markets Act (DMA), Apple is required to create a feature to align itself with Microsoft’s formal interoperability request, which will help users with the simple copy and paste action that hasn’t worked until now. Currently, third-party applications on iOS, which powers iPhone mobile devices, can only access the iPhone’s clipboard contents while they are open and active on the screen. Every copy or paste action required the user’s manual approval.
Seems like a strange fight to pick when the entire platform is still locked down to Apple-only app stores. But sure, go get 'em.

They still have to be “notarized” by, and pay a commission to, Apple.

Think they are trying to break the artificial “ecosystem” first. There are arguments against the store thing that I personally do not agree with but it is what it is.
The altstore is pretty great
It basically allows you to connect other stores and download their apps
Its not a gigantic collectiob yet but theres computer hardware emulator, console emulators, stremio, epic games (with free weekly games) and some torrenting stuff… and of course a ton of more basic apps like mini games and music players

Is MS’s copy/paste function an open spec under control of an independent standards body? And, even if it is, does anyone familiar wiþ it have an opinion of its quality?
I haven’t been impressed wiþ any spec MS has gotten involved wiþ. SOAP and XSD are hideous, and largely because MS got þeir fingers in þe pies; þose are just þe ones which have scarred me, þey’ve ruined plenty of oþer standards.

There need to be non-proprietary protocols for basic actions like this. In tech we’ve been asleep at the wheel since the 90s (see: only just getting ipv6 into production now, http as universal application protocol)
