Many of them are brainwashed by parents and are ignorant of world affairs. The recruiters get to them when they are 17. Many regret it later, and that’s why the suicide rates in the military are high. Teenagers make incredibly poor decisions. I get what you’re saying, but have some compassion. The enemy are the folks who own media and profit from it, not the ignorant masses.
17? Many schools have recruiters walking the halls long before that. Plenty of these kids were getting talked up in the hallway at 15 and had recruiters calling their cellphones unprovoked or stalking them to their homes using personal information they got from the schools.
Also, Transformers and COD games are hitting eyeballs as soon as kids are old enough to watch TV unsupervised. Beer commercials, certain coffee establishments, etc etc. The wrong unsupervised media environment readily delivers poor kids to the armed forces as an aspirational goal.
tends to be the most accessible way out of that poor small-town hellscape so common across america too.
part of me wonders if one of the main reasons we dont have universal healthcare/education is it would effectively crater DoD’s ability to recruit anyone. already struggle to hit their quota as is…
