Hoekstra made headlines in June by saying that Canada’s annexation by the United States would be a great topic of discussion for Prime Minister Mark Carney and U.S. President Donald Trump.

Hoekstra told a crowd in Halifax last September that he was disappointed and frustrated by the “anti-American” tone in the most recent federal election campaign. He said it was dangerous for Canadian political leaders to describe the Trump administration’s tariff campaign as a trade war.

This fucking guy. He was ambassador of the Netherlands as well, also was petitioned to be removed there. I think the first bad thing he did warranting the opposition was say that there are certain no go zones in our country (something about drug criminals making certain neighbourhoods so unsafe the police didn’t dare to go there, which was and is obviously false disinformation). He later did a bunch of other things people dislike him for, can’t remember those.

I understand the sentiment, but he is accurately representing Trump. It’s not like the new guy would be any different. While he’s here, every time he opens his mouth he reminds us what Trump thinks of us.
