The delight’s in the details.

Remember NONE of this was really ever about making money or good art.

This is a product of a cancerous and pseudo-spiritual ideology in the ruling class that the working class are fundamentally only temporarily useful.

The article goes more into depth talking about how they want to use it background stuff mostly, but we all know that’s just to ease people into it. If these execs had their way they would have the entire game be AI slop.

I don’t disagree with you, but IMO the background stuff is one of the starting points of the slippery slop(e) to fully AI generated games. They know that fully AI generated games would be torn to pieces by most players at the moment, but the execs will sneak more and more genAI into games if they can count on players getting slowly accustomed to its presence.

There’s also the fascist side to this:
They will monitor your computer this way. They will extract personal information about you. They will use that information against you. They will abduct you and kill you if you behave and answer anywhere rebellious against fascist.
This was the end goal, direct access to personality, asd how easily they can curtail you.

Hot take but immersion of ai coffee talk npcs might be one of the best use cases for generative ai.

Outsourcing world building to a random text generator sounds like the most artistically corrupt thing I’ve ever heard.

A friend played the Skyrim LLM mod in a discord stream and I gotta say it’s not as exciting or fun as it sounds. The ai broke character so easily and said things the character shouldn’t be able to know, for example how does Baalgruufs child know about Paarthurnax? Maybe it’s better since when he played it but I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
