One of my former classmates got locked up for trying it on with an underage girl in a cinema. I’m not saying Showcase is a hive of villainy, but for sure it’s exactly the sort of place where you need to be particularly vigilant against predators.
Frankly, ban them full stop. I haven’t consented for any part of my appearance being captured on them, just as many others haven’t. Consent is explicit, not implicit.

Considering some of the bootleg movies I’ve seen in my time, the quality couldn’t be any worse than what they were doing before.

Lol the shitty quality I never minded as much (and usually great chunks of the movie missing) but later on they started doing gambling advertisements troughout the movies, and that made them completely unwatchable. Shame really, and I’m pretty sure it was just some leeches tossing those in to perfectly good camrips, I don’t even think it was the bootleggers themselves doing it.

besides which they got tiny cameras these days, bootleggers don’t even need to use glasses like that. plus the cinema rip days are pretty much long gone, these days the high def version is out a few days later. i can’t imagine anyone not being patient enough for those.

Many years ago, back when camrips still where back so like 20 years ago or so I once seen a cam rip of a movie i forget the title from. The movie itself sucked however it was filmed in China and the Chinese kids laughing made it really funny and cool to watch. I wish I remember what movie it was and I wish I still had that rip, hence why you should always download and keep everything. I buy new harddisks every year, so worth it. I just need some sort of “God”-AI to sort it all out for me.

Around here, cinemas provide official captions. No need to have an AI screw it up by mangling names or misattributing dialogue.

I was looking to see how that transcription feature worked, but since tech journalism is mostly marketing, I couldn´t find it discussed, but I’m guessing it kind of sucks, between latency, errors, and constant retroactive updates to the conversation.
Ideally the theater would be broadcasting the subtitles synced to the movie, because good subtitles are edited for space and timing, so a real-time AI transcription is always going to be a worse experience even if it is technically perfect.
I’ve also been thinking what a tremendous WASTE it is to have individual users transcribing media audio, when it could be easily provided at the source by the creator who does it exactly ONCE.

True, but the display is there to show the subtitles, and it’s much better than looking down at a phone and distracting other audience members.

the display is much more expensive than the camera so if there is any utility in there being a camer there is no reason to not have it
