If I were a Fable dev, I would be dragging my feet so hard getting this thing out the door because you know MicroSlop™ already had Copilot draft the layoff emails for release day.
I tried the original, and Fable 3 which came with my Xbox 360 forever ago, and neither managed to impress me enough to keep playing. Curious if this one will be any different.
I was a big fan of 1 and an when bigger fan of 2. Got 3 expecting much the same and my disappointment was so great that I’m only now getting around to playing the first two more than 15 years later and I expect this one to be complete trash.
In a way, I have to thank fable 3. It was my first time feeling truely let down by a game and the domino effect it started eventually contributed to my radicalization as an anti-Corp, anti-rich, non consumerist. All that money and power and they use it to scam poor people out of their joy.
I know its an unpopular opinion but I actually enjoyed 3. I won’t compare it to 2, but i definitely like it more than 1. I was surprised to find out that the majority of the fan base dislike the game. There was so much to do in 3 compared to 1 and i enjoyed those systems, especially at the time the game was out, there was no other game that let you do what you could do in fable 3. But i gave up on that talk cause the fable fans i talk to hate 3. Leaving this here for anyone who also enjoyed 3 lol With regards to the new game, I felt like the first preview was something to look forward to. It felt like the fable systems from the first 3 games are being improved (relationship systems, working a day job for extra gold, buying/renting houses, …) Obviously i take it all with a grain of salt considering every new release ends up being a cash grab.
Honestly, my biggest problem with 3 was the wasted potential. To this day I still talk about the hero weapons as what they could have been, wholly unique extensions of your play style, your actions manifest. Instead you’re almost guaranteed to get the bone handle due to the hollowmen towards the beginning of the game. The story had potential, but by game 3 you already know that you can buy up every house in the nation as you go so by the time I had to make the hard calls, it didn’t even dent my land Lord money to fund the defense against the darkness out if pocket. The only genuinely uncomfortable thing was that there were unique weapons given to the NPCs that matched the spirit of fable 2, but we weren’t allowed to have them.

I laughed so hard at that xD i was just reading another article titled “Bethesda Dev Says Cuts Were Rare Before Xbox Took Over: ‘All Of A Sudden We Have Yearly Layoffs’”
Fable 2 is the absolute best in the series. If you have the opportunity I’d recommend you try it. 1 and 3 is fun, but not nearly as good.
