Not across Europe and certainly not outside of the western sphere of influence. And there is a straightforward reason why: the story is so transparently ludicrous that anyone paying even minimal attention can see through it, and after years of being told to be afraid of Russia by governments that have demonstrably lied to them about other things

It’s sadly not true, intensively curated russophobia is a helluva drug.

It’s been overheated, as media here says, especially how people started getting reactionary attitudes related to Ukrainian refugees/Ukrainian migrants

At a time when Russia holds the upper hand in Ukraine and has repeatedly stated its openness to negotiation and dialogue […]

Genuine question: what is there to negotiate or discuss about besides Russia giving back all areas it has invaded?

the people of those regions and Crimea made it clear they don’t want to be under the boot of the fascist Ukrainian regime. Let’s respect their right to self determination.

Has that ever actually been determined by anything not controlled by Russia? When I tried to look into this, the pre-invasion polling I found showed the public in the region trending away from Russia. Then, Russia invaded AND THEN we got elections that supposedly voted to join Russia. Like, by ludicrous margins that very blatantly implied vote tampering. Is there any evidence they want to join Russia that doesn’t very obviously have Russia’s thumb on the scales?

Has that ever actually been determined by anything not controlled by Russia?

Let me trying reframing that for you: “Has that ever actually been determined by anything not controlled by NATO?”

Point being, if you’re going to bring up bias, you need to bring up all of it, not pretend lack of bias when it’s a western proxy but bias when it’s in favor of Russia. The western/white empire commonly puts on a pretense of being wholly unbiased when it’s the exact opposite.

It’s also very important to keep in view that Ukraine of today did not become how it is organically. The people did not choose to do a coup and were happy with it. That was violent western meddling. The people of Ukraine do not benefit from being forcibly conscripted and fed into a meat grinder war machine. They do not benefit from being tortured at training camps. This is not a region full of true believer liberation fighters trying to protect themselves against invasion. It’s not a Palestine, in other words. Ukraine leadership, in fact, is an avid supporter of israel and aspires to be like them.

This equivalence is so false, it feels like a deliberate attempt to muddy the waters. You’re trying to conflate the results of a public poll with the results of an election held by the invader with a known track record of poor election integrity. The two are in no way directly comparable.

No, I’m trying to bypass the trash narrative you’re repeating to call attention to the realities that it’s obfuscating. It’s so fucking tiresome, this debate bro language like “false equivalence”. Do I need to repeat myself in all caps so you read it this time? UKRAINE LEADERSHIP ASPIRES TO BE LIKE ISRAEL. That means they aspire to be an invader, occupier, genocider. And if you look at the way they’re treating their own people, violently conscripting them, torturing them in training camps, they’re already acting a lot like israel! They don’t give a shit about human life. They have neo-nazis in high places, for fuck’s sake. It’s not a liberation struggle. The dead bodies of Ukrainians killed by western-backed nazis in charge of Ukraine don’t get to come back to life if you debate bro about polling hard enough.

The invasion was the LAST step. The conflict began way before 2020. Mr president comedian was elected on a platform of reconciliation and peace with Russia.

          Ukraine embraced nazism.

Question do you think if the Soviets invaded Nazi Germany in 1938 instead of waiting to be attacked, would that be “bad” as well?

If the “international” community isn’t going to do anything about NATO expasion and fascism in Ukraine, whats the next step? You are just a moron when it comes to real-politik. Russia isn’t a benevolent state, they have their own interests, their interests aren’t even left wing, they however will and have to react to the US and Europe trying to destroy them economically.

Nothing ever makes war okay, but it’s incredibly juvenile to act like this is the only factor to be considered.

The U.S. installed a fascist regime in Kyiv to remove a pro-Russian government that was democratically elected. Said fascist regime then began conducting ethnic cleansing against its Russian minority. That minority fought back and asked Russia for assistance. Russia spent 8 years trying to negotiate an end to the conflict to no avail before deciding to invade.

None of that makes Russia’s invasion correct, but it does explain why they took the actions that they did. Pretending like this didn’t happen (even though it’s well-documented) or that it doesn’t matter (it does) is an unserious treatment of geopolitics bordering on satirical.

Russia is to blame for the invasion, but Ukraine and the United States are to blame for giving the Russians a pretext to invade in the first place. Neither Washington nor Kyiv needed to behave the way they did; they acted on their own selfish reasoning for their own selfish interests at the expense of peace and human life. That makes them far more guilty than Russia.

Ukrainian Nazis deserve terrorism, a bullet in the head and the dismantling of their Nazi state. Russia didn’t “bully” anyone, they’re rightfully invading a nation that was purging russian-speaking citizens and trade unionists in a full fascist swing. Fascist nations should be invaded actually.

Most of us would have the same attitude for almost any Western nation getting invaded, hope you know. :)

The EU could start by ceasing to try to war with Russia through proxies, normalize trade with them, and build friendly ties instead of making them out to be a cartoon villain at every opportunity. But that would require the EU not functioning as vassals of the white empire; it would require EU leadership wanting to have peace with their neighbors, instead of looking at their neighbors and thinking about how they can profit off of violence toward them, couping of them, extraction of them as resources.

Russia’s alleged “aggression” only makes sense as aggression if you view geopolitics through abstracted principles divorced from history. Which is in fact a common tool of white empire thought. By removing things from their historical context and abstracting them into debate bro principles, they can flip the script and make an aggressor seem like a victim, a victim seem like an aggressor, and so on. Then white westerners get to feel like they’ve utilized their Superior Thinking ™ to do Good Analysis ©. But in reality, they’ve done the opposite; the whole point is to not delve into the history in detail, not understand what is actually going on in the world, but nevertheless feel informed, knowledgeable, and worldly. In this way, the “salivating about slavery” neocon power brokers can go on carrying out brutal imperialist policies, with the backing of smug “live, love, laugh” liberals.

The fact that Russia holds the upper hand (purportedly) makes one think that maybe the proposition of going back to pre-2014 is not exactly a realistic proposal
