The Supreme Court on Monday rejected President Donald Trump’s controversial plan to change how mail ballots are sent to voters across the country, rebuffing a proposal that election officials warned would have had catastrophic consequences if allowed to take effect for this year’s midterms.
It was stopped based on there not being enough time for a change like this before the election but not that they can’t do it:
Justice Brett Kavanaugh, a member of the court’s conservative wing, wrote a concurrence explaining that he thought the proposal may be within the authority of the USPS, but that “state and local election officials do not have sufficient time to reasonably implement the rule before the elections.”
What really angers me is they should be taking the opportunity to tell the federal government they cannot intentionally not deliver mail which is what a judge who actually wanted to protect the constitution and our legacy of law for this issue. Allowing the federal government to blanket instruct the usps to not deliver mail opens up a massive can of worms. Heck even with a warrant it should not be allowed. Sure they can use a warrant to open a piece of mail but that should not happen while in the USPS care.
