IIRC this song was inspired by a retired Californian couple who vanished in their RV one morning. The lead singer was inspired by their apparent disappearance as a call to escape. Shortly after recording the single the couple was discovered off the side of a steep road where they apparently fell to their deaths.

Man, I loved that song.

And to think it was inspired by the story of an aged senior couple who got lost driving to an event 40 minutes from their house and were found dead days later over 4 hours away.

iirc Elvis Costello was asked about his various inspired performers and he said, “I proved it wasn’t a successful style, but yeah whatever. Good luck to ‘em”.

I remember that song, along with the origins of the song (sort of). I am remained of my early 20s hearing it, so long ago.
