I am trying to consume less in my life and also spend a little less, because one of the few voices I have is spending and its better in my bank than a corps. I have been trying to either buy used, or buy better value items, and or avoid plastics etc.
I am stating to notice what can only describe as small barriers, I know its just inconvenience and habit but I am hoping for some suggestions that can help me overcome the hurdle.
As an example I have been trying to buy some new utensils, I would prefer nice ergonomic ones metal and wood. But when I try reviews there is so much sponsored/ click here to buy blogs. Its hard to find decent reviews, when tying to choose and under consume getting the right thing researching is an important step. Even then purchasing decent quality is dominated by big stores amazon/dept stores etc. I was looking at OXO good grips but they are still heavily plastic and they only have decent ranges in amazon or John Lewis. Its not about the utensils, its more the barriers inbetween. I have enjoyed these conveniences that have now trapped me in a way.
Another example when trying to buy used items, it is so hard to do this without marketplace.
Anyone else feeling this?
I don’t really know if I really understand your question but I try to answer:
Do you need these new utensils (ie. are your current ones not usable anymore?) or do you just want new ones.
Anticonsumption is about only buying stuff you really need and/or fulfills your life.
Its not about the utensils, its more the barriers inbetween.
That’s why Anticonsumption is so important. Buy much less and you’ll see that this is much less of a hurdle.

Buying used items is still consumption.
It’s about stepping away from tech. The utensils I need new as I have really old trashed plastic and I hate replacing cheap plastic with more cheap plastic that dies after a year. I enjoy cooking and want to streamline to true useful tools that will last 10/20 years. I can scour thrift shops but that’s a bit hit and miss. It’s more about escaping tech. The utensils are just the variable here. I hate thinking ok a good fish flipper is high on my list. First I have to research, and it’s laborious, even when I can find a few decent but they are in key retailers, at a price. It gets tough avoiding the big ones.
Again the other variable new furniture, marketplace is great, less waste, usually cheapish but requires FB which I am boycotting.
I suppose I am asking how others manage less consuming, less waste, less spends free of tech.
