There wasn’t enough push back for paid multiplayer.
And loot boxes
I remember getting downvoted into oblivion in the psplus subreddit years ago… People liked it… well I’m on pc now and never bringing a console in my house that makes me pay to use it
That was micro$lop’s biggest win, for sure. “How about we charge people to connect their device to the internet they’re already paying for?”, Sony was quick to follow with the PS3
removes the ability to self-host servers and insists that everyone us their own servers
have to charge for online because hosting so many servers is expensive
Sony and Microsoft: It’s an unfortunate reality! How could we have possibly seen this coming! But look, you get voice chat!
15 years later, Nintendo: I could use some beer money.
My pushback was voting with my wallet, opting out of paid multiplayer and then eventually opting out of console gaming entitely. Ps3,
XboneXbox 360 and the switch were my last consoles. And I won’t ever buy their games ported to PC or really any game made for console first, and then ported to PC as an afterthought with shitty UI. There’s too amny great PC games out there to put up with that disrespect. Now the only “console” in my future is the steam deck and its successors.
What made you buy a Xbox one?
It was an Xbox 360 I misremembered. To play Halo 3
Honestly I see this as a good thing having rights as a side effect of them not being able to come into your house and take something physical. What we need is laws that that define the ownership of the copy of art that you give money for. Physical or not I feel I have more rights of a digital only Indy PC game from gog or non DRM steam game than any physical game as they can patch out or flip the switch or disable secure ROM on a disk I own on my self.
