Almost wish Xi did call the bluff and inquire more to see how fast Trump would back-peddle. If Trump actually did start to move forward, then we get to see how fast it get blocked by laws that list China as one of the foreign adversaries. Which could a least be fun to see the major right-wing media outlets either condemn him or trip over themselves to claim how amazing it is. Maybe see how willing his own people in the military/SCOTUS/congress are to coup over treason.
But I imagine that it would quickly turn into requirement exempting any sale to immediate declaration of Taiwan as not part of China (and other non-starters). Which would then be fuel for right-wing media and politicians to hoist Trump higher for being a “deal maker” and the “un-willing to play ball” CeeCeePee if they declined. So not worth it outside of this random instance of Trump rambling while hosting Xi.
