sigh…pills. one of the worst trends in UI design within the past couple years. pills, borders for everything, purple, jetbrainsmono. and Firefox decided “pills is the way to go!”. It’s what i’ve started calling “The Claude Look”.

I really hate the pills look.

doing A : B testing with that toggle. It’s definitely hard to see it as anything but a UI downgrade.

The toolbar icons have a blurrier look on my computer on Nova? They just look worse too imo design wise.

I wonder if people still think about these changes or it’s all just scripted now. This time we make things a bit rounder, next time a bit less, add a tiny bit of space here, take it off there, more gradients or less. All the while pretending that it’s more modern or something when it’s actually just another combination of the same shit. I don’t mind, I just find it odd that anyone cares or thinks it’s somehow new.

If you only dislike the horrible AI-looking color scheme, you can install the Proton theme (by Firefox) from the settings.

The new UI is fine for me, but it’s also nice to see they kept the nova.enabled flag after the update for those who don’t want it.

The best change for me was moving compact tabs from an about:config flag to an actual setting. Was using that before and it’s nice to see it’s not going away after all.

Seeing the blog post I wasn’t sold on the changes, but I thought to myself it’s usually just a matter of getting used to it.

Then I realized I’m reading this from GNOME Web and I hardly use Firefox at all any more. For the first time I will not get used to it. Then I saw the links to Twitter and Linkedin, and remembered exactly why I left that trainwreck behind.

Firefox has long been the most customizable browser. It’s in our open source DNA. Now we’re adding more ways to make Firefox feel like yours, including new themes and wallpapers.

You used to actually be able to theme Firefox, is this returning? All you have now are crummy backgrounds to clutter the visually bland buttons and menus.

I’ve been using Lepton/Firefox-Ui-Fix for about 5 years now and haven’t had to worry Ui updates since.

WTF were they thinking with the new design; it’s so incredibly ugly? Thanks so much for posting this.
