Jessica Cantu Vuittonet, who runs a coffee shop in San Benito, Texas, cast her first ballot in 2024 — for Donald Trump. Two years later, after her brother was deported, she feels angry and betrayed.

Ariel Salinas, who owns a construction company in McAllen, Texas, can no longer reliably find laborers for his work crews. He blames the president’s immigration policies for his financial headaches.

In more than two dozen interviews across the region in recent weeks, Hispanic voters said they were furious over the president’s approach to immigration and the economy — the very problems they had counted on him to fix.

Only now? So all the racist shit in the beginning didn’t phase them, it was just the result of his “big ideas” which everyone knew wouldn’t that are finally showing results is what convined them? Lol.

They hear him always talking about “dangerous illegal immigrants” and think he’s talking about only the dangerous people here illegally. Somehow never catching on the to fact that he’s not describing a specific subset of immigrants, he’s describing how he sees immigrants as an entire group.

Propaganda works. They believe the republicans are moral, religious, pro-life, fiscally conservative, anti-socialism, anti-communism, that they’ll cut the taxes of the working class, that peace through strength actually works and that conservatives are tough on geopolitical adversaries and tough on crime. They think Dems are going to turn the nation into a communist country that forces abortions and transitioning and won’t address crime or immigration problems.

Now there’s a whole slew of issues with these beliefs, but it doesn’t matter, because propaganda works, and it’s been generations of propaganda that’s landed hard with them. They won’t ever trust Dems, but they might not show up to vote, and that will frankly do the job to defeat republicans if they don’t cheat or cancel the elections.

You left out the part where they thought they could trade their latino heritage out to become white adjacent. The same thing happened with the Irish and Italians. Thats where it all came from.

Foreigners that immigrate believe that classism is the main divide of The US because thats how it is in their country. Ethnicity, religion, and class are the main dividers in countries where everyone looks the same. America was founded on whiteness being the MAJOR social divide and you could trade in your ethnicity if you looked a certain way. Its why if you’re Polish no one looks at you funny in the US but in the UK Polish immigrants were part of the propaganda of “Stealing our Jobs” for Brexit. They’re finding out the hard way that it doesnt work that way here

Absolutely, but don’t forget that they were primarily fooled into thinking they had two feet in the door already by being religious and conservative in their religiosity. They figured just saying and believing all the right political points would let them in the in-group and all they had to do was pull up that ladder themselves.

They are here legally, so they should have nothing to worry about, right? … oops.

I just don’t understand how they could possibly believe he’d behave any differently. This is the guy that had Stephen Miller in his first failed administration, FFS.
