Thinking of purchasing one , but the reviews I see don’t talk about the electric aspects much. At least in comparison to like minded vehicles.
I test drove it, was a little cramped in the front, banged my elbows making turns in a parking lot. The back door handle is really high up, doesn’t work for shorter passengers. The ride is was really good and I love that regen is triggered when pressing the brake. Stopping felt natural. I also drove the Subaru trailseeker and it drives very similar, but bigger in the back.
I drove a 2018 model (ICE) for a couple years. That was the first model year, so I can’t speak to how it’s changed since then.
Overall, it was… fine. Despite what I wrote below, it was a serviceable car with a few issues that I couldn’t live with.
My biggest complaints and the reasons I ultimately traded it in were twofold: Space and noise.
There was a surpring lack of space in the CHR- it felt cramped inside despite being a large crossover. I’d get uncomfortable after about an hour of driving (I had a long commute), the trunk space was very limited, and the rear seats were positioned such that a passenger couldn’t actually look out the window.
The car also had next to no sound insulation. The wind noise on the highway was excessively loud to the point that I could barely hear the radio.
Most of my other problems with the CHR, like the infotainment, gas mileage, and underpowered engine were addressed in later model years or are irrelevant to the EV version.
it felt cramped inside despite being a large crossover.
This is true of all smaller SUVs. Why the hell do people keep buying them?
Not true at all
I’ve driven a decent number of vehicles in the crossover category and, for the most part, they were reasonably comfortable. Only the CHR and the Hyundai Kona felt particularly tight or uncomfortable. I think it’s a design issue and is not universal to all crossovers.
Thank you 🙏 yeah these maybe issues for me as well. might I ask what you ended up with?
I’d suggest you go for a test drive and see if any of my complaints still hold water. It’s possible that the new version doesn’t have these problems.
I got a really good deal on a Polestar 2 last year and love it. They just backed out the US market though, so probably not a great time to be considering buying from that brand.
Auto reviews are a waste of time, they never talk about reliability. They just count cup holders and pretend they are not paid to sell the car.
New EV, first model year: avoid. Avoid any car in its first year or three.
