“Adult stuff” and “you’ll understand when you’re older” for me were mostly blank stand-ins for “this is how it is”. Mostly connected to questions too tiresome to be answered properly at the time, questions on the nature of culture etc.
Thankfully, morality questions never got such answers when I was raised xD

Ehhh, I’ve learned a few things as I got older. Mostly that “you’ll understand when you’re older” means “my opinions are extremely unethical and I hope you’ll become selfish too”…

Now that I’m old and don’t know shit about shit, the one thing I’ve learned is that most old people very frequently don’t know shit.
So now you understand!
I didn’t wanna know, anyway.
You’ve finally understood that these things don’t really make any sense. You’ve understood that some things can’t really be understood.
What you understand when your older is that nobody knows what they are doing.
But it’s rude to call them out on it and it’s worse to be rude than it is to be incompetent.
I feel this deeply.
