My wife wanted a camera* to keep an eye on her chickens so I fixed that. At the time I got two refurbs for the price of one new so a spare had been lying around for years. Last week I saw some digging marks under my beehives I could not place and so … I spent a few bucks on a pipe, pulled utp through it and hooked up the spare in front of the hives. Now I ‘only’ need to sink it into the ground. Just digging 70 meters through stony soil.

* the first one hangs on the garage so it was easy to power and build a wifi bridge

I just dug about 200’ of trench with one of these mounted on a skidsteer, borrowed from a neighbor. Needed to bury some gas lines and electrical cable. Beats the hell out of a backhoe, and especially a shovel.

Of course, I had to fix it because the nose wheel bearing piled up about 10’ into the job. I guess that’s cheaper than renting. I’ll take it back with a bottle of whiskey.

    C4. Always C4.

Lucky for you, you don’t need to dig very deep. Just deep enough to cover the pipe. So a trenching spade is good enough and fast enough for this job. 70m ain’t that far. Otherwise a backhoe is best in stony soils. A ditchwitch would be a poor choice because you need to stop and dig every stone out by hand.

That’s the plan. It’s just my backyard. It’s just a cat6 cable. No risk of injury. It’s unlikely to be cut by digging and if it ever does… I’ll decide then and there.

Put in posts, and outdoor rated wire… burying that shit is a pain in the ass and you don’t have access to it if something ever happens to it (yea it supposed to be fine in conduit and they sell direct burial but in rocky soil that shit will fail eventually). I ran cat 6 uv rated to a barn of mine via cabling and tall posts. I have rock for soil as well, easy to reach and fix if it ever fails. Plus it acts like a bird perch in the am lol
