I’m done with surgery and after nearly 5 years I can go out running again. After a few runs (4) I decided it’s worth buying good shoes again.

So there they are! The best I could find for myself : Last year’s saucony shoes in a ‘boring’ bright white color.

What surgery? I am just recovering from a bilateral inguinal hernia repair. Can’t wait to get back out running maybe even this week!

      inguinal hernia

      ditto …

Have not been able to go running in almost 5 years for they had no clue what caused my pain during runs. Until a fast growing bulge appeared on the left last winter . So I had open surgery on the left in march. I could run after that but non the less I kept pushing them, for I knew from the start it was both sides. Turned out I was right (pun by coincidence) and had laparoscopic surgery on the right in sept.

The feeling of being able to go running again, seems to be a thing only to be understood by runners.

      maybe even this week!

The choice is yours, but don’t push it! I’ve waited 6 weeks. Wasn’t easy, but the fear of going to fast and drop out again helped. For what are 6 weeks on 5 years right ?

That’s amazing congrats on the repairs!

I managed to get mine fixed before the pain got too bad. It’s weird looking down and not seeing huge bulges though.

I went to shouldice they get you moving the day of the surgery and I’m cleared to run next week and heavy weights in another 2 weeks. Feels weird AF though as it repairs.

As for shoes, get whatever feels good. Depending on how much you run you’ll be swapping them in months anyways lol.

It was so gradual I only noticed my suffering after it was gone. My daughter later explained they noticed it, especially the like 6 months before it really showed and a clear conclusion was drawn.

True, there are many different guidelines on when and how to start. I fully agreed with my surgeon for she just said "It’s not an exact science, only do what feels right for you "

          whatever feels good

That’s the only way!! But for hiking boots and running shoes quadruple so. I’m extra weird … Long ago I decided on a pair of shoes, and they got me a fresh box from the back. I took off my shoes again, opened the box and tried them. They where close to being insulted. But … if I have not felt their fit, they ain’t going home with me.

I recently retired my all white Saucony Ride. Now I have dark blue Rides. I love me some Saucony running shoes and bonus is they’re cheaper than a lot of equivalent models in other brands.

For me it’s Saucony or Asics. And yes, I think deep deep down inside Saucony has a preference over Asics.

In the store I tried quite a number -also other brands to compare- and they had remarks like “But we have these only in white” … “The size says 10 and you have 9.5” … “It’s last years model” … “these weigh 15 grams less” … but none of it matters even a little bit to me. I search the shoe that feels like it’s clearly made for me personally. Only then I ask for the price and decide if it’s worth it. These where definitely IT and the price was no issue for they turned out to be on sale with 35% discount (only for being last year’s model)

When I got my last pair about a month ago, I went in with the plan to go with Hokas since my 1 prior experience with them was good, and a bunch of people I know like them now. I tried on some New Balance, Saucony, Asics, Hokas, and Brooks and it came down to Saucony or Asics. The $35 price difference was my deciding factor because the shoes felt very similar. The NB were way to cushiony and the rocker plate in the Hokas was prominent and bothered the balls of my feet. I think the brooks were a little too soft. So it turns out I just really like my Rides.

Funny, I had hoka as my third option. When just walking on them, hoka was immediately a favorite. But when I started running, hoka was … not sure exactly how or why, but it was instantly clear, those are not my running shoes.

Mostly white (NB 880) running shoes. Replaced a pair of (also white) Hoka that were hurting my knee. I’m not much of a runner.

Funny but impractical. Can’t imagine spreading each of my toes that far let alone while running. Blister Master 2500 MK-II
