It finally happened. After 8 years of usage, R*ddit decided to force me to prove my age to even see the front page. I absolutely refuse to give them my face or ID, so I guess it’s finally time to let the dumpster fire go. I hope the platform burns to the ground asap. Really hope its current state generates more activity here, Lemmyverse really does seem like what Reddit should have been.
Everything that made Reddit good died years ago. We’ll build a new Reddit, with blackjack and hookers

Made it for you
My hero.
Why are we censoring the word Reddit in a legit conversation?
Just an attempt at making a joke (censoring it like a swear word), it seemed kinda funny when I wrote the post
It’s alright here (I’m also super new here) tho there’s way less content going around here than on reddit, gotta get to work posting and commenting here to make it more active (personally) I feel you have a bigger stake on keeping a community active when it’s smaller like this
there’s way less content going around here
You mean less AI spam, and advertising? Reddit’s content is long gone.
The only thing is the remnant of finding recent issues/solutions because Reddit is google crawled, and Discord is not (yet)
That’s one of the biggest issues I see, having to go to reddit to find tech help or general info/advice.
People kinda go and bunch up together, then magnetize and start drawing in more and more people to the black hole, takes energy not go fall into the big socials. Most people are to lazy to care about alternatives
Yeah the amount of seemingly spam posts from new subreddits that hit the front page is absurd. The same content will be posted several times, from several subreddits all with thousands of up votes.
After the IPO March 2024 they’ve really stepped on the enshittification-gas pedal. They’ll ban users for pointing out the bots - and the bots they refuse to ban. What’s even more hilarious is how they removed old.reddit.com to stop AI scraping, and now they’re entering the final stages what even un-registered users being able to view reddit content at all.
Let it marinate. Either there’s gonna be a data leak or they are simply going to sell the data themselves. AI companies are going to scoop it all up and train their models.
In a few years you can ask the LLM to generate you an accurate image of a reddit mod and we finally will have the definitive answer wether the the memes are all true or not.
That reminds me, time to flip this back to on…
…and done. Shout out to Controld, hopefully they are still not a shitbag company because I swear every time I adopt a service they go south or get ideological.Use open source stuff so that you can see them go south and use AI
It works, it’s easy to setup, easy for multiple devices, and doesn’t require me to open up my own local ports to self host. And it’s cheap.
Maybe someday I’ll refine the approach.
Make sure to be equally angry at governments forcing it because it will happen here too.
