We’ve noted multiple methods that DHS has used to hide detainees from family, from lawyers, and from the legal system. The Guardian has documented the latest such method: ICE immediately re-arrests our neighbors after they have won relief through their habeas corpus petitions.
The number of these petitions has skyrocketed (over 91,000) as the Supreme Court has required individual filing in order to prevent people from being trafficked around the country by DHS. District and Circuit courts have started to rule that rearrests are illegal and do not comply with the habeas orders. Unfortunately, the National Immigration Project has documented “a very, very sharp increase in people who are released on habeas petitions, only to be very rapidly re-detained.” As usual, the régime is doing its best to disregard the courts and the law.
ACTION: Support NIPNLG, the lawyers group within the National Immigration Project that is fighting on behalf of our detained neighbors everywhere in the U.S.
