President Donald Trump said he is exploring possible exemptions to his tariffs on imported vehicles and parts to give auto companies more time to set up US manufacturing.

“I’m looking at something to help car companies with it. They’re switching to parts that were made in Canada, Mexico and other places, and they need a little bit of time, because they’re going to make them here,” Trump told reporters Monday in the Oval Office.

There should be some serious insider trading investigations with these daily u-turns on tariffs. Won’t happen, but it should.

Oh, sure. Auto parts are exempt. Until they’re not / never were. Just like computers, phones, and chips.

President Trump on Sunday said there were no exceptions made to his tariff announcements, adding that “nobody” will see an exemption in his widening trade war. The message, posted to Truth Social, came after some electronics were excluded from his administration’s 145% import levies on goods from China.

On Friday, a notice published by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection office said that smartphones, computers and other electronics are excluded from his administration’s tariffs on goods from China. Since early April, Mr. Trump has ratcheted up tariffs on China-made goods in a tit-for-tat between the U.S. and China over trade duties.

These companies are going to “announce” that they’re reshoring to the US, then drag every single heel they have until Trump leaves office.

There’s no way they actually bring the factories back, just to get screwed over completely when the tariffs are lifted by the next president.
