Playing Pokemon Yellow (Gen 1). Taught my Haunter a normal type move, Rage. It keeps attacking till either the enemy faints or you faint. Was facing a Fearow. It only knew Normal type moves, which don’t affect Haunter. Had already defeated a Pidgey and a Spearow (and one other Normal or Flying Pokemon). Going great so far. They lowered my Attack, Defense, Speed, Accuracy etc. but weren’t really able to hurt Haunter so it was fine.

But then, out of nowhere, all my attacks start missing. So, Haunter’s Rage builds. Haunter attacks. Haunter misses. Fearow attacks with some move. It doesn’t affect Haunter. Repeat endlessly.

I had another save from earlier. Only one. So I loaded it. Only, I saved this game instead. Now the only save I have is from this battle after this fucking loop had already began.

I’m so fucking angry and disappointed. This run was going so well, too. Sure I’d lost a lot of Pokemon and probably would’ve been wiped sometime in the future, things were looking up. Until this happened. I was mentally ready to start another run after a wipe, but I wasn’t ready for it to fucking happen like this. God.

    Can’t you run out the move PP and try to win the struggle-match?

    EDIT: Bulbapedia sez no. Gotta luv gen 1. Good news, you’re not technically soft-locked. After missing during battle, rage has it’s accuracy set to 0.4%, but it won’t drain PP. So if you’re persistent enough, and re-play this battle several hundred times, eventually you’ll land a KO.

    Not much worse than shiny hunting tbh.
