I find the characters really interesting and fun. I was hoping that the series would be about Ainz making the guardians more human. I thought that was what they were doing with Sebas saving that girl and Cocytus wanting to save the lizard people. But it seems like this series is instead about Ainz becoming inhuman. I find his loneliness and complete incompetence to be sad character flaws I was hoping he could overcome, but it seem like he is instead digs himself deeper.
I feel like there are two different stories tugging at each other: one where Ainz values humans, and one where he becomes only what his guardians expect him to be.
I’ll probably not watch anything more from this franchise unless the ending is one I find satisfactory. However, that will be hard because I don’t think Ainz can atone for the thing’s he’s done in a satisfactory way.
Yeah, I started watching this anime because people said it was like That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, but it’s far too heartless for me. I had to stop watching before even getting to the end of season 1.
Would you say that Slime is a more wholesome anime in this genre? I have thought about picking it up next.
Yeah, definitely. The main character really wants people to get along, but still stands up and fights for his people when they’re threatened. It’s a much better balance in my opinion.
Thank you for your thoughts. I’ll check it out in my next procrastination period :3
Fair and nuanced take.
Meanwhile, me watching:
I’m happy that you enjoy it :3 it’s jut not for me.
I have to admit that it’s rater well written than most others with lots of things that are mentioned early and gets resolved later. I don’t feel like many anime have that quality of foresight. It actually feel like the writer has a ending in mind. I just feel like the journey is a bit to rough emotionally for me.
